Banding has taking place in most of the nests and this is done at about 5 to 6 weeks of age. Two bands are placed by the New York State Department of Conservation (NYSDEC) Endangered Species Unit, one for our state of New York and one for the Federal Government. These bands will help identify a bird at an older age, where it was born and when.
